Illustrative example
With the example inputs, estimated net worth is $250,000.00. A point-in-time snapshot using entered market values. Enter the full home value and mortgage separately. Retirement balances are before future withdrawal taxes.
These example values are for explanation. They are not current market quotes or personalized recommendations.
Calculation method
Net worth equals total assets minus total liabilities. The home’s full value is an asset; the outstanding mortgage is a separate liability.
Assumptions and limitations
Point-in-time values, not projections or a liquidation estimate. Retirement accounts use pretax balances. Excludes tax, sale costs, pension present value, and Social Security valuation unless you independently include an appropriate value in other assets.
Net worth calculator FAQs
Choose a question to read the answer, then try your own numbers in the free calculator.
Should I enter home value or home equity?
Enter the full home market value and the mortgage balance separately. Entering equity plus the mortgage would subtract the debt twice.
Can net worth be negative?
Yes. If liabilities exceed assets, the result is negative.
Is net worth the same as money available to spend?
No. Homes and retirement accounts may be illiquid or subject to costs and taxes when accessed.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. You can calculate and download the breakdown without creating an account.
Are my numbers saved?
The app sends inputs to its calculation API to produce the result, but does not save them in an app database or browser storage.
