Illustrative example

With the example inputs, remaining 2026 roth ira contribution room is $7,500.00. Direct contributions only; traditional and Roth IRAs share an annual cap. Enter Roth-specific MAGI and eligible compensation. Separate filers who lived apart all year use the single/HOH option. Excludes conversions, rollovers, and excess-contribution corrections.

These example values are for explanation. They are not current market quotes or personalized recommendations.

Calculation method

Start with the lesser of compensation and the 2026 age-based cap. Apply the Roth MAGI phaseout, round a reduced positive allowance up to $10 (minimum $200, capped by available compensation/IRA room), and subtract Roth contributions already made.

MAGI bands are $153,000–$168,000 for single/HOH, $242,000–$252,000 for joint, and $0–$10,000 for separate filers who lived with a spouse. No backdoor conversions, rollovers, inherited IRAs, special repayments, or excess correction tax. Spousal compensation eligibility is not determined.
